Knebworth Festival Poster
II
|
|
|
| |
1975
was the year Pink Floyd
appeared, complete
with World War II spitfires
flying low behind the
stage as they started
their set. Roy Harper
appeared backstage
on a horse and was
most upset when he
wasn't allowed to ride
it on to the stage,
due tothe 16' drop.
Quadrophonic sound
was installed, probably
the first time at any
outdoor event. Booked
after the poster was
printed the late Graham
Chapman of Monty Python's
Flying Circus made
various silly appearances
throughout the day.
The complete programme
included Pink Floyd,
the Steve Miller Band,
Captain Beefheart's
Magic Band, Roy Harper
and Linda Lewis.

Knebworth
1976 Festival Poster
1976 was the year the
Rolling Stones appeared.
The event was billed
as 'all the fun of
the fair' and as well
as the bands, featured
160 clowns, jugglers,
fire eaters etc. Also
medieval jousting.
The stage was designed
to inflate into the
famous Stones tongue
logo as the Stones
came on stage.
The circular design
of the poster was suggested
by the Stones to avoid
billing problems amongst
the other acts and
was probably the first
time this type of design
was used to publicise
a rock festival.
The complete programme
included Rolling Stones,
10cc, Lynyrd Skynyrd,
Todd Rundgren's Utopia,
Hot Tuna and Don Harrison
Band.

1978
First Knebworth Festival
Poster
|
|
| |
The
first Knebworth Festival
of 1978 featured Genesis
and Jefferson Starship
with Tom Petty and
the Heartbreakers,
Devo, Brand X and Atlanta
Rhythm Section. Due
to domestic differences
between Grace Slick
and her long time companion
guitarist Paul Kantner,
Grace returned to America
before the gig. It
was the first time
the Starship had ever
played without her.
However, they pulled
out all the stops and
received a standing
ovation at the end
of their set.
