1969
Bath Festival Poster
|
|
|
| |
The
1969 Bath Blues Festival
was unique among European
festivals as it was the
very first outdoor event
played by Led Zeppelin.
Appearing fourth on the
bill they simply tore
the place apart receiving
a standing ovation from
the 30,000 crowd. "...there
was so much noise that
I thought we had a riot
going on, I rushed out
of the back stage area
to find it was nothing
more sinister than the
climax of Zeppelin's
set..." Brian Jones
(stage manager). The
complete programme included
Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall,
Ten Year's After, Led
Zeppelin, Nice, Chicken
Shack, John Hiseman's
Colosseum, Blodwyn Pig,
Keef Hartley, Group Therapy,
Liverpool Scene, Taste
featuring Rory Gallagher,
Champion Jack Dupree,
Savoy Brown, Clouds,
Principal Edward's Magic
Theatre, Babylon, Deep
Blues Band, Just Before
Dawn and D.J. John Peel. |

1970
Bath Festival Poster
|

In
1970. Led Zeppelin headlined
what was probably the
best programme ever seen
in the UK and once again
stole the show. Jimmy
Page appeared dressed
as a country yokel and
the fans loved it. The
Moody Blues were rained
off but The Byrds made
their UK reputation by
going on instead, playing
an acoustic set to ecstatic
applause. Pink Floyd
appeared late on Saturday
night and gave their
world premier of Atom
Hart Mother. John Mayall
assembled a hand picked
band especially for the
festival, which included
Pete Green from the original
Fleetwood Mac. The complete
programme included Led
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,
Canned Heat, Frank Zappa
and the Mothers of Invention,
The Byrds, Jefferson
Airplane, Dr John, Steppenwolf,
Santana,Johnny Winter,
Country Joe, It's a Beautiful
Day, Flock, Hot Tuna,
and Maynard Ferguson's
Big Band, John Mayall's
Blues Breakers(featuring
Pete Green), The Moody
Blues, Fairport. |

1971
Lincoln Festival Poster
|
|
|

The
1971 Lincoln Festival
featured James Taylor,
The Byrds, Tom Paxton,
Buffy St Marie, Sonny
Terry & Brownie Mcghee,
Tim Hardin, Pentangle,
The Incredible String
Band, Sandy Denny, Steeleye
Span, Ralph Mctell, Dave
Swarbrick and Martin
Carthy and Dion.
The Byrds were booked
to play an acoustic set
at Lincoln, because of
the fantastic way they
went down playing acoustic
at the previous year's
Bath Festival. However,
they again stole the
show by being the only
band at Lincoln to play
an electric set. The
Lincoln poster is probably
the rarest of all the
posters that I am having
reprinted. Only a very
few were originally printed
and it was only sent
out to a limited number
of record shops, selling
tickets for the event,
in the local area. |

1974
Knebworth Festival Poster
|
|
|

1974
saw the first Knebworth
Festival take place in
the superb grounds of
Knebworth House. Led
Zeppelin were originally
meant to play at this
festival but it wasn't
until 1979 that they
finally made it to Knebworth,
playing two consecutive
Saturdays on 4 &
11 August.
"...Van
Morrison's contract
contained a clause stating
that he could terminate
his performance if he
did not like the look
of the audience. In
the event we couldn't
get him off stage he
was having such a good
time..."
Freddy Bannister (Promoter)
The 1974 programme consisted
of the Allman Brothers
Band, the Van Morrison
Show, the Doobie Bros,
the Mahavishnu Orch,
featuring John Mclaughlin
and Jean Luc Ponty,
the Sensational Alex
Harvey Band and Tim
Buckley.

Knebworth Festival Poster

(20"

The smaller
Pink Floyd poster (20"
x 24") is a reprint
of one that was found
whilst poking around
in an old cupboard and
was, I think, sent out
to the various ticket
agents and university
social secretaries and
is probably the only
rock poster where a
horse gets equal billing
with an artist. It also
features the late Michael
Chapman of Monty Python's
Flying Circus.
