THE
FIRST ISLE OF WIGHT
FESTIVAL IN 1968
came about for no other
reason than the Isle
of Wight Swimming Pool
Association wanted to
raise funds. It was
held on Hell's Fields,
a 100 acre field of
stubble corn. Extremely
low key it featured
Jefferson Airplane,
The Crazy World of Arthur
Brown, Tyrannosaurus
Rex, Fairport Convention,
Plastic Penny, Pretty
Things, Aynsley Dunbar
Retaliation,Orange Bicycle,
Blonde on Blonde and
Mirage. It was initially
billed as an all-nighter
from 6.00p.m. August
31st - 10.00 a.m. September
1st. Memorabilia from
this event is very rare. |
