more sinister than the

In
1970. Led Zeppelin headlined
what was probably the
best programme ever seen
in the UK and once again
stole the show. Jimmy
Page appeared dressed
as a country yokel and
the fans loved it. The
Moody Blues were rained
off but The Byrds made
their UK reputation by
going on instead, playing
an acoustic set to ecstatic
applause. Pink Floyd
appeared late on Saturday
night and gave their
world premier of Atom
Hart Mother. John Mayall
assembled a hand picked
band especially for the
festival, which included
Pete Green from the original
Fleetwood Mac. The complete
programme included Led
Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,
Canned Heat, Frank Zappa
and the Mothers of Invention,
The Byrds, Jefferson
Airplane, Dr John, Steppenwolf,
Santana,Johnny Winter,
Country Joe, It's a Beautiful
Day, Flock, Hot Tuna,
and Maynard Ferguson's
Big Band, John Mayall's
Blues Breakers(featuring

Blues, Fairport. |
